Mernda 3754 is located 27km north-east of Melbourne's CBD, in the local government area of City of Whittlesea. At the 2016 Census, Mernda had a population of 16,458. In the early 2000s, the suburbanisation of the suburb commenced, and new housing subdivisions began to emerge. In 2018, passenger trains re-commenced stops at Mernda station, after 60 years of absence.
Mernda is located 15 minutes from the RMIT University Bundoora Campus, and it has two primary schools, two secondary colleges, and a Christian college within a short distance.
