We believe the rights of the children are paramount and all children have the right to experience high quality education and care. Therefore, we view all children as successful, competent, capable learners and decision makers in their life and learning.

We believe families are the first and most influential teachers of their children. We embrace diversity through an inclusive culture that promotes equity. We do this through meaningful partnerships with families based on understanding each other’s expectations and attitudes, and building on the strength of each other’s knowledge. We encourage and value any input into the Centre’s program.

 

Environment

We provide an environment that is welcoming to all. We create physical and social learning environments that are safe, engaging and are responsive to children’s culture, interests, needs and abilities. Our environment aims to promote exploration, sensory learning and a connection to our natural world. We embed sustainable practices and foster children’s respect for the world around them.

 

Play

Our curriculum embeds Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives to reflect our respect for the traditional custodians of the land on which we work, learn and play. Children love to play, and we believe play promotes positive dispositions towards learning. We provide a context for learning, so children feel supported to engage in critical thinking to organise and make sense of their world.

Our Story
Our journey began back in 2002 when I (Deb) received a phone call that was intended for my sister in law to do a days work as a relief staff in the local childcare centre. She was unavailable, so I asked the lady if I could help her, I told her 'I was just a mum, but how hard can it be' her response was 'come on down'. This was the start of my personal journey.

I thoroughly enjoyed my day and was invited back on numerous occasions until I was offered a full-time position as the centre cook, lunch floater and before and after school care assistant. I began thinking I could make a difference in the world, I could build my own Childcare centre and be able to help families immediately, no middleman for answers.

My experience gained from working in the industry allowed me the opportunity to compile feedback from families in local communities in regards to their needs and wants in a childcare. This is when the Little Diggers dream became real.

My husband Paul is a Building Designer, so he began designing a childcare centre with my input. This was a challenge for Paul as you can imagine, I'd say no don't like it, change that back haha, oops, I made many changes to the plans until I was happy with the final design to his delight. We had a design and put it into the council, this took 18 months to be approved. Now, all we need was a name, we had input from lots of family and friends, and during this time we lost the most remarkable man in Paul's life, his dad. Very sad time for all, we hadn't opened our centre yet, it was almost built, still had no name. So once again we nutted names out that could represent his life so we had a piece of him with us forever. A lovely friend/ teacher now, suggested Little Diggers ' as he fought for our Country. This name was brilliant, my children, his little Diggers were going to attend our centre, so perfect. We had it registered and to this day he is with us all.

After discussions once again with families and friends in the local communities it became clear to me that our motto would be 'Children are our Future our greatest asset' and our personal and staff moto would always be 'Family First'.

We opened our doors in 2006 as a family owned and operated centre with 10 wonderful children.

Our History
Our vision to inspire learning early has grown over the years from a humble wish to care and nurture children to a workforce of over 300 Educators, Teachers and staff all working together to provide caring and educational experiences to realise each child's best potential. In 2018, we celebrate 30 years of educating and caring for children in the Moreton Bay region.
 
January 1998
Our pioneer Service at Redcliffe opened it's doors. On the first day of care we opened with 8 children and 3 Educators.
 
May 1991
Our Redcliffe Service was expenaded to include a specialised creche in a separate building.

January 1994
Sesame Lane Rothwell opened, also servicing Deception Bay with a courtsey pick up and drop off bus.

September 1997
Narangba ' Banyan Street opened its doors, our first Service to offer care for school children.

September 1998
South of Caboolture, our Morayfield Service opened on Caboolture River Road.

August 1999
We expanded operations to include a centralised management and administration team.

January 2002
Narangba ' Cotton Tree Drive opened, including Narangba School Zone. This was the first Brisbane facility to offer care for school children in a purpose built facility within the private sector.

October 2002
Kippa Ring 1 opened its doors, the first of 4 separate Services to be built on our Kippa Ring location.

January 2003
Not long after Kippa Ring 1, Kippa Ring 2 opened it's doors.

January 2004
Kippa Ring School Zone opened to cater specifically for older school children run by a specialised out of school hours care coordinator.

May 2004
Kippa Ring ' Anzac Avenue opened, completing our Kippa Ring location Services.

March 2004
Sesame Lane's corporate management and administration team moved to the second level in Kippa Ring above Kippa Ring ' Anzac Avenue Service. The team are fondly known as Sesame Lane Head Office.

July 2004
Our Clontarf Service opened, our closest Service to the Ted Smout Bridge and Sandgate.

August 2007
To cater for the flourishing new community in North Lakes, we opened our first Service in the new suburb, North Lakes ' Discovery Drive.

January 2010
North Lakes ' Joyner Circuit opened across from The Lakes State College as a double Service to cater for the growing North Lakes population.

July 2013
Our two story North Lakes ' Astley Parade Service opened next to Drake's IGA and situated across the highway from Dakabin.

February 2015
North Lakes ' McLennan Court was built with an open plan environment, a new concept in the child care industry.

January 2018
Kippa Ring 1 & Kippa Ring 2 combined and reopened as the new Kippa Ring ' Regency Street Service following extensive redevelopment and refurbishment with dedicated play spaces for younger and older children.

We continue to new and innovative ways to ensure all our Happy Healthy Learners experience learning and growth that will last a lifetime.

Montessori Philosophy
Montessori education is an educational approach developed by Italian physician and educator, Maria Montessori. In 1907 Maria Montessori opened her first classroom, the Casa dei Bambini or Children's house, in Rome. From the beginning, Montessori based her work on her observations of children and experimentation with the environment, materials, and lessons.

Montessori education is characterised by an emphasis on independence, freedom within limits and respect for a child's natural psychological development. The Association Montessori International cite the following elements as essential:

Mixed age classrooms
Student choice of activity from within a prescribed range of options
Uninterrupted blocks of work time
A constructivism or 'discovery' model, where students learn concepts from working with materials rather than by direct instruction
Specialised educational materials
The Montessori approach is based upon the natural laws of human development. Maria Montessori observed that children under six absorb limitlessly and effortlessly from the world around them and in so doing lay down all the foundations for later in life.

The mixed age group allows the children to develop socially, intellectually and emotionally. It is an essential part of any Montessori School.

In a Montessori School the child is guided by a trained adult who will show them how to do the things they are ready for. Later they can work with the materials independently.

Montessori education is practised in an estimated 20,000 schools worldwide, serving children from birth to eighteen years old.

Principles of Montessori Education
Montessori is about learning to balance responsibility with freedom of choice. It offers children the opportunity to realise their potential in a non-competitive environment and seeks to promote:

Self-confidence and self-esteem
A sense of achievement and self-worth
A sense of responsibility for themselves and their actions
Independence and adaptability
Cooperation with others and a sense of community

The history of the College has its roots in the parishes of Maryborough and Hervey Bay. It was a vision that began back in November 1991 and began to be formed into a reality through 1992 with parishioners from Maryborough and Hervey Bay. That vision was to see the Anglican Church establish a school in the Fraser Coast district, to contribute to the education and development of young lives in the local communities, in an environment founded and shaped by the Christian faith.

The College commenced operations in a business office at 67 Main Street, Pialba on 1 July 1994. Our Foundation Principal was Mr Grahame Ginn (1994-2004). Situated on 64 acres of scenic bushland, the College opened its doors to 138 students from Year 1 to 8 on 31 January 1995, and was officially Blessed, Dedicated and Opened on Saturday 1 April 1995 at a ceremony in the College grounds, officiated at by the Most Reverend Peter Hollingworth, Archbishop of the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane.

Over subsequent years the College has experienced strong growth both in student enrolments and the provision of facilities.

The College now boasts an extensive built environment catering for the diverse learning needs of our students. This incorporates a Kindergarten facility, Preparatory School, general classrooms, a leading edge Library and Resource Centre, Science laboratories, a purpose-built Technology Precinct with computer laboratories/pods, covered multi-purpose area, dedicated Art and Drama classrooms, Catering and Food Technology laboratory, and Industrial Technology building.

The Chapel (formerly St Mary's the Virgin Anglican Church) was moved from Tewantin to the College site on 16 December 1994.

At the first Speech Day, the Primary Administration building (now the Kindergarten) was named the Coman Building after the Executive Officer of the Anglican Schools Commission, Dr Peter Coman, who was instrumental in the initial support and early development of the College. Other buildings are named after commonly noted local shrubs and trees. The Houses of the College are named after stars or star systems.

Wooloowin School’s Out is an out of school hours care centre offering annual and holiday care in Wooloowin, Queensland for primary school-aged children. This occasional care facility is part of the Wooloowin State School. The centre is not open on weekends.

Services

During school holidays and outside of school hours, Wooloowin State School welcomes children to ‘School’s Out’—a high-quality and fully supervised program. At Wooloowin School’s Out, our staff members are fully qualified and highly experienced, offering unmatchable care and dedication to each student’s education.

Our philosophy balances indoor and outdoor play, homework, and rest time to create a varied and fun environment for children to enjoy. We coordinate a wide range of stimulating activities to suit all skills, interests, and age groups. We also offer occasional excursions.

Nutrition policy

At Wooloowin School’s Out, we arrange our meals around Education Queensland’s ‘Smart Choices’ guidelines, which encourage healthy eating and regular physical activity.

During our before school sessions, we provide a nutritious and balanced breakfast for each student. We also offer afternoon tea and a late, light supper during our after school sessions. We provide all meals during our vacation care sessions.

Grounds

Children are welcome to make use of the school’s large playground area and open spaces during out-of-school hours and vacation care.

Communication

Communication with families is an extremely important part of our educational philosophy. Each Thursday, we send out a school e-Newsletter to all families. We also offer hard copies of the school newsletter, which can be collected from our school office, for families who do not have internet access.

Our teachers will send notes home to families to keep them informed of special events or class programs. We also encourage parents to arrange meetings with teachers at any time during the school year during their child’s progress. Parents can also contact teachers directly via email to ask questions or provide feedback.

MacGregor Outside School Hours Care(MOSHC)
MacGregor Outside School Hours Care is a non for profit entity of the MacGregor Primary P&C Association, who was recently recognized as “Exceeding the Standard” under the National Quality Assurance rating and assessment.  The centre is located to the rear of the school grounds on the MacGregor State School campus.  MOSHC operates year round with the exemption of the two weeks in December over Christmas and New Years where it is closed each year.  The service is exclusive for students enrolled at MacGregor Primary only. 
Macgregor Outside School Hours Care is an approved provider Child Care Service under the Education and Care Services National Law (Queensland Act 2011) (Service Approval Number 730913).
As a requirement of MOSHC’s license, the centre is required to comply with the Education and Care Services National Law (Queensland Act 2011) and Education and Care Services National Regulations. These include:
1.    The requirements about activities, experiences and programs
2.    The numbers of staff members and children
3.    Staff qualifications
4.    Following the “My Time Our Place” National Quality Framework.
