About Us Newport Lakes Primary School (Newport Lakes PS) is located in Newport in the City of Hobson Bay. Newport is a well'established residential area with a significant increase over the last 10 years of the socio'economic status of the community and the School. Student enrolments increased every year in the last decade to the present number of 447. The School has a capacity of 475 with a neighbourhood capacity ceiling. The School consists of Block A made from a combination of a historic 1880's heritage building, a 1920's red brick building and two Light Timber Construction (LTC) wings housing the administration, staff facilities, library, intervention, Language Other Than English (LOTE), student toilets and 12 classrooms. There is also a Building the Education Revolution Program (BER Program) multi-purpose building containing a hall space, visual art room and a kitchen. Six classrooms, drama and music are housed in one new 10 mod double story and two older five mod double classroom relocatable buildings. The School was awarded $3 million to upgrade some of the present facilities with construction in 2018. Four new classrooms and student toilets will replace the southern LTC wing and a new music room and small gymnasium will be constructed at the southern end of the School grounds. The School's current organisational structure consists of 18 classrooms'both straight and composite classes. In 2017, the School had 31.1 equivalent full time (EFT) staff which includes two Principal class members, 24.9 Teaching staff and 6.2 Education Support (ES) staff. The School has had a focus on inquiry learning. An educational consultant conducted professional learning with staff over a prolonged period developing inquiry learning that provided authentic learning experiences through the delivery of curriculum that enhanced the engagement of every child. The School also established intervention programs for literacy and numeracy utilising Intervention teachers, Coaches and supported ES staff. There is extensive computer hardware and software available in all classrooms and e'learning is integrated into the pedagogy of the School. There has been provision of e'learning coaches who delivered professional learning, guidance and instructional modelling to provide staff with skills, knowledge and confidence. The School Wide Positive Behaviours Support (SWPBS) program underpins the learning and social development of the School, to create a learning environment for all students and staff in which the values of respect, responsibility, resilience, compassion and critical thinking are both referred to and explicitly taught in all classrooms. The School has a before and after school program operated by a not for profit organisation with a full day care for outside users during school holidays. Parents are actively involved in the School in a variety of ways, some of these being: School Council and active sub'committees of finance, facilities and management, community and fundraising, as well as education and parents club with continuous planned activities for students, staff and parents Parent Helpers program to assist in classrooms learning programs (Reading, Writing) and assist with incursions, excursions and classroom activities throughout the School.
