We are a Montessori centre located in Manning Valley-Taree, NSW,which provides a long day care service for 3 months – 5 years old children. We pride ourselves on putting the children first and meeting each child’s individual needs. The Montessori method of education allows students to learn through practicing tasks and to develop a sense of order, coordination, concentration and independence. In a Montessori classroom, children are free to respond to their natural tendency to work in areas that they are showing interests and our learning environment is suitable to the developmental ages of children. We have a very positive reading culture at Darwin Montessori Early Learning Centre. Therefore, we have a mini library with 500 books and all the children have access to the library every day. We strongly believed that the educator-child and parent-child relationships will have strong impact for the child development. Our Montessori materials are placed on the child-sized open shelves. Children are taught how to use the materials in a small group or one-to-one, selecting activities, and choosing work that interests them independently. All the materials are displayed in a sequence following the order of how they are introduced in the Montessori curriculum. The children are encouraged to explore the materials. For each material displayed on the shelves, there is only one in relation to teach children the concept of sharing, learn to wait for their turns, and be patience. The materials are self-correcting in order to let children to solve their own problem independently, which fosters problem-solving, critical thinking, and cognitive skills, and allows children to build self-confidence. Montessori environment allows children to learn through hands-on experiences in a structured, well-prepared, and calm environment.
