A Canberra childcare centre that has achieved top billing in a new national ratings system says paying above-award wages to its staff is one of the secrets to its success. The Caretaker's Cottage Childcare Centre at the Australian Institute of Sport is one of 22 early childcare services in the ACT that has so far been given the highest rating under the new National Quality Framework. The research would tell us that high-quality care comes from having high-quality educators and good staff-child ratios,'' she said. ''You can't have high-quality care without high-quality staff and you can't have high-quality educators without paying them the proper remuneration.''
