The Curtin University Early Childhood Centre is located in the Curtin University Perth campus, to allow staff and students to spend time with their children during their working day.  The centre staff are dedicated toward creating a secure and comfortable home from home.  Parents are encouraged to visit the centre at any time.  The centre caters for children five years and younger. 

Services

Curtin University Early Childhood Centre specialises in learning focussed, nurturing programmes, centred around play based philosophy.  The curriculum design is based around respect and inclusivity, and endeavours to assist children to develop trust in others and themselves. 

A welcoming and nurturing environment helps children to grow and to develop a life-long love of learning.  The programme works towards encouraging independence and developing self-esteem alongside building curiosity, facing challenges, and discovering how to problem solve.  Staff are highly qualified with low ratios for classrooms.

Routine is important for young children, and staff strive to maintain daily practices, as well as encouraging independence as the children grow.  Children are kept together as a group as much as possible, moving up together annually with at least one familiar educator. 

Daily activities include introducing cultural traditions and practices around food and culture, and engaging play such as picnics, drama, and roleplay. 

Grounds

The centre grounds include a playground, garden, sandpit, and open spaces.  The grounds incorporate nature play, with natural materials and trees forming the foundations for imaginative spaces and shade.  Well designed play grounds and equipment present physical challenges for the children to explore. 

Nutrition Policy

Healthy, nutritious meals and snacks are provided, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients.  Mothers who are breastfeeding their babies are welcome to come into the centre to feed their babies.

Communication 

Parents who have children in the centre are encouraged and welcomed to call in whenever they can.  Daily records and observations are maintained by staff, and parents may discuss their child’s progress whenever staff are available.  The centre values parents as partners and works closely with them to create an education and care plan that suits their child’s strengths and needs.
